Free Import Tariff on Scrap Metal in Ukraine

News from Ukraine's parliamentary official website: Borisenko, president of Ukraine signed a decree to cancel the 5% import tariff on scrap metal used in ferromanganese smelting blast furnace. Parliament received the decree signed by the President on the revision of the Ukrainian customs tariff laws and regulations. The elimination of scrap metal import tariffs is part of a decree aimed at reducing the scrap metal deficit in the Ukrainian domestic market, and ensuring the demands in defense industry and restoring infrastructure.

On October 5th 2016, the decree was passed by the Ukrainian Parliament, and Ukraine abolish the current 5% tax rate by implementation of zero-tariff imports on scrap metal used in copper sulphide ore smelting system. Carlaux, the chairman of parliamentary committee of industry, pointed out to cancel the 5% import tariffs is a sign for supporting the national metallurgical and mining industry.

From the first eight months of 2016, Ukraine imported 15.66 million tons of scrap (1773 tons imported scrap in the same period of last year), with imports mainly from Turkey (51.31% of imports) and Slovakia(42.10%).
